Concerned about your child's development?

After over 20 years of teaching Martial Arts we have discovered that there are 4 key areas that parents are concerned about their child’s development, however not all these areas are the same for each child, because as you may know as a parent, each child is different, even two brothers or sisters may be total polar opposites, you can have one child that is very confident and one that could be very shy, you could have one that is more academically intelligent and the other one may be more athletic, so you can see teaching children anything can be quite challenging.

Here are the key areas and what they can represent:

  1. Self-confidence

This covers areas of self-esteem, assertiveness and pride.

  1. Physical fitness

This covers weight control, strength and flexibility, and coordination.

  1. Self-discipline

This gives them, concentration, self-control and their personal integrity.

  1. Self-defence

This covers safety, confidence, and awareness.

For each parent that comes to our school we give them the option to put these in order of most importance for each child, this way we can see what we have to work on asides from teaching them awesome martial arts skills and becoming the next Karate kid or Ninja Turtle.

This is why Martial Arts is so good at helping multi needs, because the same class being taught for discipline and control is also helping someone to gain in confidence and pride and its got nothing to do with the actual punches and kicks being taught, its the repetition, the breathing, the Kia’s (shouting), the team work that has to be done every lesson through pad work, self-defence and sparring, this is invaluable for young kids and this is why Martial Arts is the king or team work in sports.

As we teach Martial Arts, we also offer homework sheets explaining and developing life skills these sometimes include our students having to go out of their way to provide random acts of kindness and some are about writing down their goals or how they have helped others recently, there is a whole array of subjects that we cover.

On top of that we also talking to the students about our theme of the month, which is a separate theme to our monthly homework, these skills are then taught in class with our drill for skill which are then tested at the end of the month to earn a stipe on their belts.

Conclusion:

Martial Arts is not just about punching and kicking, it’s a never-ending self-development journey for children and adults, and in today’s technology driven state, we need activities like Martial Arts more than ever.

So, weather its focus, discipline, confidence or fitness you or your child needs, give Martial Arts a try!
